💫 Understanding 정 (Jeong)

정 is one of the most important cultural concepts in Korea, and there's no exact English translation. It's the deep emotional attachment and affection that builds between people over time — a bond of loyalty, warmth, and caring that goes beyond simple friendship or love.

정 applies to family, friends, coworkers, even your favorite restaurant owner. Koreans say "정이 들다" (jeong settles in) when you've developed this bond. It's why Koreans share food from the same dish, why leaving a job feels so emotional, and why your Korean friend's grandmother will feed you like you're her own grandchild.
